Dominic Golding
A landscape style colour photograph of Dominic, a Vietnamese Australian man, who is vision impaired and has Cerebral Palsy, standing in front of a crowd of formally dressed adults in the hall of Parliament House in Canberra. The floor is marble tiles, arranged in an abstract black and white oval pattern, and Dominic stands on a black section of the flooring, just slightly to the left of centre. He is pictured from his shins up, as the photographer has cut his feet out of frame. The room has high ceilings, supported by white columns, clad in light green marble, there is some wood panelling and a staircase is just visible on the far right. The mood of the room is fancy and formal. Behind Dominic stand several groups of people, not looking at the camera. They wear formal clothes and are talking to each other, either before or after an awards ceremony. The photograph is taken during the day, as we can see light coming into the room through 8 or 9 tall windows that run along the floor above the crowd, at the top of the photograph. Some of the people in the crowd wear traditional dress, some are in suits and ties. Dominic stands in front of this scene, hands in his pockets. He wears a black suit, with the jacket unbuttoned, revealing a navy blue business shirt with a white spotted style pattern on it. The shirt is unbuttoned at the neck, and he doesn’t wear a tie.Hi shirt is tucked into the suit pants, which are worn with a black leather belt with a silver buckle, the end of the belt is not held by the belt loops and points slightly towards the viewer. Dominic has straight black hair, combed slightly forward onto his forehead. He is smiling, lips closed, and has one eyebrow slightly raised. He looks proud and quite chuffed, as though he’s just been presented an award. He stands tall, with his legs slightly apart, looking directly at the viewer.
